OpenApp GIS & Mapping in the news
OpenApp have worked closely with ERTO; a lead operating agent of the NRA since 2012, laying the foundations with the Incident Management System. The Incident Management System allows ERTO assist as motorway managers in Ireland, to manage, record and report all incidents across Ireland’s Primary Road network, or approximately 65 million journeys a year. These incidents range from weather alerts, a lost driver to major road traffic accidents. This information is then fed to the public via the mobile app, NRA Traffic and the public website NRATraffic.ie. The app and website allows users to save and favourite routes they typically use with push notifications sent to users if there is an incident or roadworks on their route.
“The control centre, managed by port tunnel operator EGIS, will supply information to the NRA phone app which gives motorists route information including about weather, travel time, crashes, road conditions and potential diversions”.
“The app also links to CCTV cameras based on the main inter-urban routes. The NRA stresses the app is for users to plan journeys and not for use while driving”.

The roadworks feed comes from another application built by OpenApp, Road Space Booking which allows ERTO to manage, view and accept bookings from private contractors across their road network. The routes covered across all applications include:
M1, M2/N2, M3/N3, M4/N4, N5, M6, M7, M8, M9, M11/N11, M16/N16, N19, M20/N20, M21/N21, N22, N25, N40, M50, N81, N85, R139, R133, N31, R132, R108, R135, R148, R134, R137, R838, R113, R826, R133, R842, R118, N24, N10
All applications within the OpenApp suite of web based applications are underpinned by modern GIS technologies and mapping services, allowing a superb visual summary of activity across the road network.
