OpenApp are delighted to be short-listed for the prestigious Healthcare Innovation Award at the recent IMSTA Med Tech Awards.

The Healthcare Innovation Award aimed to showcase some of the most novel and effective healthcare innovations being researched and tested by healthcare professionals throughout the health service.

A requirement of the award was that all innovations must address a need, or demand, in relation to patient care or health service delivery.

OpenApp was nominated and short-listed for our involvement with the European Cystic Fibrosis Association patient registry, ECFSTracker aswell as national cystic fibrosis registries. ECFSTracker is the dedicated data-collection software of the European Cystic Fibrosis Society. It currently has data on over 40, 100 patients across 28 countries. The purpose is to measure, survey and compare aspects of cystic fibrosis and its treatment in the participating countries, thereby encouraging new standards of dealing with the disease, to provide data for epidemiological research and to identify special patient groups suitable for multi-centre trials. The information will facilitate long-term planning of health expenditure allocations and developing pan European support systems.

“This is a significant short-list for us. We're constantly innovating with our patient registry software and it's great to get acknowledged for the valuable contribution that we are making to healthcare in Ireland.” said Mel McIntyre, MD of OpenApp. “The competition was fierce and the ultimate winner is incredibly deserving of the award. It's fantastic to see the amount of innovation, that is quietly going on, which improves service delivery and patient care every day in the health system.”

The winner of the award is a new electronic tool developed in the Rotunda Hospital, which identifies pregnant women at risk of complications from blood clots. The other finalist was Dr Conall O’Seaghdha, Consultant Nephrologist & Transplant Physician, Beaumont Hospital. He developed Patient Buddy, a patient self-management platform for Kidney Transplant patients to take control of their condition.
